ImAc will be presented in ISO meeting 27-31 August 2018 in Okayama (Japan) – I2CAT & UAB

ISO (the International Organization for Standardization) (https://www.iso.org/home.html) is a worldwide federation of national standards bodies (ISO member bodies). The work of preparing International Standards is normally carried out through ISO technical committees. Each member body interested in a subject for which a technical committee has been established has the right to be represented on that committee. International organizations, governmental and non-governmental, in liaison with ISO, also take part in the work. ISO collaborates closely with the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) on all matters of electrotechnical standardization.

Twice a year there is a meeting of the ISO/IEC JTC 1/SC 35 (https://www.iso.org/committee/45382.html). This stands for Joint Technical Committee (JTC) dealing with Information technology, and its Subcommittee (SC) 35, User interfaces. This SC has the groups you can see in the picture below, where we have highlighted the Work Group (WG) 06 User interfaces accessibility.

It is to this group, lead by AFNOR (https://www.iso.org/member/1738.html) and Dr Khalid Choukri,  where we will present ImAc. The project will be presented by i2CAT and UAB, as members of the Spanish National Standardisation Agency UNE (www.une.org). IMAC will be presented to the WG who is revising the ISO/IEC 24786 Ed.2 – Information technology — User interfaces — Accessible user interface for accessibility settings on information devices.

Standards need to be updated from time to time, and this second edition cancels and replaces the first edition (ISO/IEC 24786:2009), which had been technically revised, and needs updating.

In particular, ImAc will propose contributions towards:

  • (Accessible) User Interfaces for NEW 360º video / VR devices (HMDs, smartphones…)
  • Compatibility and inter-operability between Traditional and VR contents / devices / interfaces (e.g. HbbTV, multi-screen scenarios…)
  • Presentation Modes for Accessibility Services (Personalization…)
  • Assistive Technologies
  • Interaction + Feedack Modalities
  • Methodologies + Recommendations
  • Results from User Studies (Technology + Design + Evaluation)

For an explanation of the voluntary nature of standards, the meaning of ISO specific terms and expressions related to conformity assessment, as well as information about ISO’s adherence to the World Trade Organization (WTO) principles in the Technical Barriers to Trade (TBT), see www.iso.org/iso/foreword.html.

We will keep you updated!
