This week, Pilar Orero from the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona and Sonali Rai from the Royal National Institute of Blind People (RNIB) presented the work completed so far within the Immersive Accessibility Project at the 34th annual CSUN Assistive Technology Conference. The annual conference which is widely regarded as the premiere conference for accessibility and assistive technology in the world brought together experts from the field of technology, advocacy, law and policy, academia and user organisations and like always, there was focus on existing and emerging areas of accessibility but with growing interest in the entertainment and gaming.
The session on ‘Making Immersive Media Accessible’ was part of the entertainment and leisure track and led the discussion on the use of different modes of presentation for people who will benefit from the provision of access features on content produced in 360. It was clear from the discussions at this session and others on immersive accessibility that there is growing interest in exploring the potential of next generation audio and the enhancements it offers if you require additional support to engage with this highly visual and interactive format.
